‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Super Bowl Spot Features Explosions, Sinister Stares [Video]

The 30-second Star Trek Into Darkness Super Bowl TV spot features an abundance of sinister stares and fiery explosions.

It’s clear from the numerous teasers, spots, and trailers that director J.J. Abrams is heading into dark territory for the upcoming sequel. The crew of the USS Enterprise will have to contend with a number of dangers during their adventure, including a handful of hateful glares from co-star Benedict Cumberbatch.

The film’s story has been described as follows:

“In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

“With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

A number of the actors who helped bring Abrams’ 2009 reboot to life have returned to reprise their respective roles in the forthcoming sequel. Returning to Enterprise for another go-around are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin.

Star Trek Into Darkness is slated to arrive in theaters this May. The film joins director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 as some of the summer’s earliest and most highly-anticipated releases.
