Judge Rips Iverson: Family Court Judge Slams Allen Iverson’s Parenting Skills

Judge Rips Iverson

An Atlanta judge had some harsh words for Allen Iverson this week in a statement that rips apart the basketball player’s parenting skills. Iverson has a storied sports career and was once one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history.

The lashing came as part of the final divorce decree between the basketball player and his wife Tawanna Iverson. During the proceedings Tawanna Iverson was granted legal and physical custody of the couple’s five children.

According to an article by TMZ, following the court’s ruling in favor of maternal custody, the Atlanta family court judge issued the following statement directed at Allen Iverson:

“[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development. For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired. He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother.”

An article by Complex Media writes that the ruling will also put restrictions on Iverson’s visitation rights. In part, he will be expected to meet with a mental health professional and seek help for alcohol addiction.

In addition, he will now be required to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year and may not consume alcohol for an 18 month duration. As long as his children are of minor age Iverson will be prohibited from alcohol consumption in the 24 hour period prior to a visitation.

Allen Iverson has not publicly commented on his reaction to the judge’s ruling or the statement which rips apart his parenting skills.

Please remember that prior to 1865 the southern judges in all their wisdom ruled that balck people were PROPERTY. They a graduate from a distinguish law school they can kiss my educated butt.

The most important job of a judge in a divorce proceedings is care of the children. This ruling is therefore appropriate. Allen Iverson is to be commended for his basketball prowess and record, despite a lack of height which is normally required to become a basketball star performer. However, that does not overrule everything else in his life and make it necessary to grant his every wish. Facts are facts, and it is sad that a former basketball superstar has fallen into a lifestyle that harks back to his Newport News neighborhood and brothers. If he indeed abides by the judge's ruling, it may be possible to redeem his life and parenthood. I wish him the best.

I was the biggest Iverson fan and wish he would have won a title just to stick it to all the elite white men like David Stern who despise anyone that doesn't worship their kind. however, I do know a few people who have been on the periphery of his circle, played with him in D.C. and witnessed some of his off court antics. in short, all of separately described a complete a. hole with no regard for anyone but himself. its not wonder that nobody wants him on their squad, in addition to his clear loss of quickness in the last few years. his wife did the honorable thing.

Well bad habits make consequences and the Judge did right. Now a days judges don't give stiff rules but with 5 children he has to. He is the one who makes the ground rules and they seem pretty stiff. I sure hope he follows them. You just can't have children then treat them badly. There are too many children that are abandoned by one parent or the other. It's to bad he didn't stop at one. I pray that the mother can give them guidance. It is tough raising children with 2 parents but 1 is difficult. Good Luck to her.

I can't believe you are twisting this into a racially bias situation where "whitey" is oppressing a black man. Iverson was an A hole as a player and teammate and it is no surpise he is the same way with his wife and kids!!

Practice, practice. Man I can't believe we are talking about practice. I mean practice, practice? Practice, man, practice? I mean we are talking about practice in parenting. Practice?

Iverson always has been & always will be a punk. He is not husband material, let alone father material. Why anyone would willingly marry & have children with him is beyond me. He is not a role model that anyone should follow.
