Fat Cat Named Holly Swims To Lose Weight [Video]

A fat cat by the name of Holly has started swimming in order to lose weight.

The 13-year-old feline clocks in at around 18 pounds, a weight that her owner thinks is a tad unhealthy. According to the Daily Mail, Holly has started swimming at a local pet resort pool in an effort to shed those unwanted pounds.

Olde Towne Pet Resort publicist Mayra Ruiz-McPherson said that Holly is pretty much a couch potato most of the time. In fact, splashing around in the local pool is pretty much the only exercise this fat cat gets.

Mayra explained to Today:

“It was more an experiment than anything. [Holly’s owner] saw that the cat didn’t get too upset when she gave it baths, so she thought, ‘I wonder what would happen if I threw her butt in the pool?’ “

To keep the cat from sinking to the bottom of the pool, the feline’s owner Dani Lawhorne straps the cat in a life vest. Although the pool she swims in is generally reserved for dogs, Old Towne decided to make an exception for Holly.

When the feline isn’t taking a dip in the pool to lose weight, the owner said Holly can be found parked in front of the television. She reportedly loves watching the Maury Povich’s daytime chat show. Rumors has it she’s particularly fond of the episodes featuring paternity tests.

Cats aren’t the only ones who can benefit from a dip in the pool. According to WebMD, swimming is an excellent way to shed unwanted pounds and to get in shape.

Experts say those who are just getting started should takes things slowly at first. Once you’ve conditioned your body to enjoy 10 minute sessions, swimmers are encouraged to bump themselves up to 30 minutes three to five times per week.
