Beyoncé: ‘Glee’ New Directions Takes On ‘Diva’ [Video]

Glee’s New Directions are giving Beyoncé a run for her money in next week’s “Diva” episode.

But you don’t have to wait until then to see it. In honor of the Super Bowl, where Beyoncé will perform her live and much anticipated halftime show, Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has released the clip which features familiar favorites from the show.

In the clip the cast are seen discussing the nature of divadom — “A fierce, often temperamental singer who comes correct” and doesnt’ “sweat the haters” — before Ru-Paul drag queen put-downs are traded and New Directions launch into a disco version of Beyoncé’s 2008 hit “Diva.”

It’s doubtful the real diva will have seen Glee’s homage yet. After silencing her critics at a Super Bowl press conference on Thursday when she performed an a capella Star Spangled Banner — effectively drawing a line under Lip-Sync Gate— Beyoncé is now putting the finishing touches on her set ahead of Sunday’s 12 minute show.

We already know she will “absolutely be singing live,” but it’s pure speculation whether Destiny’s Child and/or Jay-Z will also take to the stage.

Having said that, The Guardian muses that Beyoncé in fact doesn’t need any guest stars, exampling Madonna’s upstaging last year by LMFAO and MIA as a case in point. And who can forget Tricky’s bewildered walk-on during her 2011 Glastonbury show?

This sunday’s Super Bowl is expected draw at least 100 million. Madonna’s halftime show last year pulled in 114 million viewers and the whole event entered the records as the most watched US television event in history.

So can Beyoncé live up to the extraordinary hype? There’s only more day to go until we find out.

In the meantime, check out the Glee’s New Directions performing “Diva” below. Featuring Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), Brittany (Heather Morris), Wade (Alex ‘Unique’ Newell), Marley (Melissa Benoist), Blaine (Darren Criss), and Emma (Jayma Mays), the episode will air this Thursday at 9 pm on Fox.

Super BowI XLVII touches down Sunday, February 3 at the Mercedes-Benz superdome in New Orleans.
