Katie Couric And Larry King Once Went On A Very Awkward Date Together

Katie Couric and Larry King are both television legends, but the two talk show hosts have else something in common — they used to date.

At least, once they did. One very awkward date, Couric recalls.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Couric recalled what it was like to go on a date with Larry King. It took place when Katie Couric was 30 and Larry King was 53, E! News reported.

Though Couric wasn’t exactly in King’s age bracket, she recalled that she wanted to look at the date as a chance to learn from a legend, Hollywood Reporter noted.

“We go to this Italian restaurant where they put you right next to each other like they do all the men and their ‘nieces,'” said Couric. “We had a nice enough time, and I see we’re going over Memorial Bridge, and that is not the way to my apartment. I said, ‘Larry, where are we going?’ And he said, ‘My place,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, mother of god.’ ”

Couric added that the date didn’t exactly pick up from there.

“So we sat there, and what can I say? He lunged…and I started laughing a little bit because the whole situation was out of a bad Lifetime movie. I said, ‘Larry, you are such an interesting, nice man, but I would like to meet someone a little closer to my age.’ ”

Katie Couric and Larry King weren’t the only ones to have a failed love connection. Couric recalled that she was trying to get an interview with Michael Jackson, but the King of Pop was more interested in going on a date.

“Can you imagine going to my daughters, who were 8 and 4, saying, ‘Honey, I’m going out on a date with Michael Jackson,” Couric said. “But I’m sorry I didn’t just have dinner with him, because that would have been a fascinating conversation.”
