Kyle MacLachlan Returning To ‘How I Met Your Mother’

Kyle MacLachlan will be returning to How I Met Your Mother in an upcoming episode.

MacLachlan, who played Zoey’s husband/ex-husband “The Captain,” will appear in the February 18 episode, “Weekend at Barney’s.” The last time we saw The Captain was in the season 6 episode “Garbage Island,” in which he asks Ted (Josh Radnor) to help him find the man who stole Zoey (Once Upon a Time and House actress Jennifer Morrison) away from him.

Naturally, Ted can’t say that he’s the one that stole Zoey but, because he’s Ted Mosby, he ends up telling The Captain after he accuses Zoey’s doorman of trying to seduce her. He convinces The Captain to let Zoey go since they have nothing in common.

The specifics of the plot have not been released yet, but what is known is that The Captain reaches out to Ted out of the blue, causing him to stress out. There is no mention of whether Morrison will be returning as well but, considering Zoey asked The Captain for a divorce in the episode, “Oh Honey,” odds are very slim we’ll be seeing her again.

Kyle MacLachlan is best known for his film roles as Jeffrey Beaumont in Blue Velvet and Zack Carey in Showgirls and his TV roles as Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks and the mayor of Portland in Portlandia. The 53-year-old was nominated twice for an Emmy Award for his role as Special Agent Cooper and won a Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama TV Series for the role.

After a brief hiatus, How I Met Your Mother will return with new episodes on February 4.
