‘Temple Run 2’ Breaks 50 Million Downloads In Two Weeks, Becomes Fastest Growing Mobile Game Ever

Temple Run 2 has become the fastest growing mobile game in history, breaking 50 million downloads just 13 days after its release.

The game was released for iOS on January 17 and quickly climbed the free apps chart in less than 24 hours with over six million downloads. Two weeks later, it’s sitting pretty at No. 2 (What’s the Word? is No. 1.) It was released on Google Play and Amazon Marketplace a week later and currently sits at the top of the chart. The game has a 4.5 star rating from over 128,000 reviews.

The previous record holder, Angry Birds Space, took 35 days to reach 50 million.

Keith Shepherd, co-founder of the husband and wife run Imangi Studios, said in a statement:

Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us. The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time.”

Temple Run has expanded to apparel, digital comics, and card and board games. In June, Imangi partnered with Disney Pixar to launch Temple Run: Brave.

Temple Run 2 features improved graphics, new obstacles, abilities, and power ups. With new hills and dips, the sequel is slightly more difficult than the original. There are also ziplines and train carts, which were not present in the original. However, the concept of stealing an idol and running from demon monkeys is the same.

The original Temple Run has been downloaded over 170 million times since its release. The game was downloaded 2.5 million times on Christmas day alone.
