Metallica To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Metallica is set to receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards. The Platinum selling band will close the ceremony with a live performance. Revolver’s Golden God Awards is like the Grammy’s but as stated by this year’s host, “sexier” and “cooler.”

This year’s ceremony will be the first time Metallica has performed at the Golden Gods. They will be joined by several other live bands such as Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, and Dillinger Escape.

As reported by Rolling Stone, the ceremony will be broadcast on the AXS network along with Revolver magazine’s Facebook page. Fans can also access the awards using Xbox and Xbox LIVE. The ceremony, which will present Metallica with the Lifetime Achievement Award, will be hosted by WWF wrestler Chris Jericho.

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian says this might be the best Golden Gods show ever:

“Zakk and I were joking onstage – every year, of course they say it’s the biggest and best Golden Gods you ever had. This year they have Metallica, so in a sense they’re telling the truth this year. Unless they get Zeppelin to reform and do it next year, maybe this is the last Golden Gods. How are they going to top Metallica?”

Metallica has recently made their entire back catalog available on Spotify. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Sean Parker, formerly of Napster, recently ended an ongoing feud that lasted over a decade. The feud began when Napster offered Metallica’s music online for free.

Parker is now an investor for Spotify. Metallica made an agreement with Parker to end the feud and offer their entire catalog online. As reported by NME, Metallica has seen a slight drop in album sales, but it has not been significant.

Metallica will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award on May 2.
