Carmelo Anthony set a new team record on Wednesday night when he scored 20 points. Carmelo became the first New York Knick player to score 20 points over 30 games in a row. With Amara Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler adding 35 points on 17 of 18 shooting, the Knicks toppled the Magic with a final score of 113-97.

After the game, Anthony focused not on his record but the overall workmanship of his team:

“When I first got here I always said it was going to take maybe three years. We had two half seasons to make something happen overnight. Now this season we can go through ups and downs and try to make something happen. When the three of us are on the court, we are making things happen offensively and defensively.”

New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson was also ecstatic with his teams performance, noting: “That’s the beauty of having two big guys play and Melo plays big as well. It’s kind of nice to have three big guys like that up front playing.”

Orlando was helped along by JJ Redick, who knocked down 29 points and fellow guard Jameer Nelson who added 21.

While the game ended with a lopsided 16 point win, the Magic cut their deficit to within four points on two different occasions.

The former New York Knicks record for 20-point games was held by Richie Guerin. The 29-straight games record occurred during the 1961-1962 season.

The Knicks were playing without backup point guard Jason Kidd who sat out with lower back pain.
