Dr. Phil: Ronaiah Tuiasosopo Was In Love With Manti Te’o

Dr. Phil sat down with Ronaiah Tuiasosopo on Wendesday to discuss his fake relationship with Manti Te’O, and the TV doctor says Ronaiah was in fact in love with Manti Te’O.

Dr. Phil appeared on NBC’s Today Show on Wednesday where he debuted several clips from the show set to air on Thursday. In one clip, Tuiasosopo proclaimed:

“There were many times when Manti and Lennay have broken up, but something would bring them back together, whether it was something going on in his life or Lennay’s life or in this case my life.”

Tuiasosopo then told Dr. Phil that he was deeply in love with Manti Te’o and that it was in fact a romantic relationship in his mind.

Dr. Phil tells the Today Show:

“Here we have a young man that fell deeply, romantically in love,” McGraw told NBC. “I asked him straight up, ‘Was this a romantic relationship with you?’ And he says yes. I said, ‘Are you then therefore gay?’ And he said, ‘When you put it that way, yes.’ And then he caught himself and said ‘I am confused.’ “

McGraw also reveals that Manti Te’o was in no way involved in the hoax. Several rumors had suggested that Te’o was covering up his actions so people would not know he is gay.

Tuiasosopo reveals during the Dr. Phil interview that he knew the hoax would eventually be revealed:

“I wanted to end it because after everything I had gone through I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life and had to get … you know, my real me, Ronaiah … I just had to start living and let this go.”

After spending time with the young man’s parents, Dr. Phil admits:

“Ronaiah had a number of life experiences that damaged this young man in some very serious ways.”

We’re not sure if he was referring to today’s interview, but Dr. Phil posted the following Twitter message following his talk:
