Ohio Dad Arrested For Holding Baby And BB Gun At The Same Time
An Ohio man was arrested after posting a photo of himself holding both his baby and a BB gun at the same time. Domonic Gaines was charged with child endangerment for holding the infant in close proximity of the BB gun. Initial reports about the incident erroneously noted that the 22-year-old Ohio dad was holding the baby next to a real handgun.
When Domonic Gaines made a Monday courtroom appearance, he referred to the baby and BB gun incident as a complete misunderstanding. Gaines was handling the gun while visiting relatives, according to Fox News. The man’s attorney noted when his client’s ex-wife saw the photo posted online, she called the police.
Attorney Andy Schoenling had this to say during a WLWT interview:
“What happened was he had his nephews over, as well as his daughter, they were all playing. He was playing with a BB gun with his nephews. His brother walked in and wanted to take a picture of him with his daughter, he incidentally happened to be holding the BB gun in the picture.”
The baby’s grandfather, Wilson Dykes, told the local news station that the BB gun and baby incident has been blown out of proportion. Dykes also claimed that is was the baby’s maternal grandmother who saw the photo of Facebook and called authorities. The gun was pointed toward the ground and not the baby when the photo was taken.
Domonic Gaines is being held in the Hamilton County Jail without bond. Hamilton County encompasses the Cincinnati area of Ohio.
