Beyonce Has Chuck Schumer’s Support: Lip-Sync Gate Who?

With just five days left until Beyonce descends onto the Super Bowl stage, Lip-Sync Gate continues to rage.

Last Monday, the singer’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” kicked off a debate that touched on everything from the artifice of politics to the state of modern entertainment.

Unsurprisingly, the New York Post stoked the fires further yesterday when they suggested New York democratic senator Chuck Schumer was expecting some sort of kowtow from Beyonce.

Door-stepped by a Post reporter at his regular press conference on Sunday, Schumer was asked if he had received an apology from the singer.

Responding simply that he hadn’t, the paper somehow morphed Schumer’s reply into a story implying that he was “testy” and that Beyonce’s “phony warbling had made [him] look like a fool.”

Obviously the suggestion is Beyonce is now persona non grata at the White House, and that would quite a scoop.

Except it isn’t true.

Buzz Feed quotes a source as saying that Schumer in fact, “wishes people would leave Beyoncé alone,” adding,”she performed for free, and it was a thrill to have her at the ceremony. Just look at his face during her performance! He’d have her back in a New York minute.”

Calling the lip-synching row “a big nothingburger,” the source shuffled off back to Pennsylvania Avenue. Job done.

Back in New Orleans, Beyonce has been busy teasing rehearsal photos ahead of the Super Bowl, while Michelle Williams attempted to whip up intrigue about Destiny Child’s reunion.

Revelations that Houston’s finest will not be paid for her halftime show set —although her band, dancers, and technical crew will — may calm some of the criticism still coming her way, said Digital Spy.

Meanwhile, Beyonce appeared to answer her critics when she recently posted an Instagram of herself wearing a sweater asking one simple question, “Can I live?”

Super Bowl XLVII kicks off on February 3 at the Mercedez-Benz superdome in New Orleans.
