Davydenko Defeats Del Potro in Title Match Of ATP World Tour Finals

London, England (AHN) – Nikolay Davydenko capped off a terrific week with a straight set win over Juan Martin del Potro, knocking off his foe 6-3, 6-4 Sunday in the title match of the ATP World Tour Finals in London, England.
Davydenko played with poise and confidence, winning the second set in just over a half-hour to wrap up the victory at 02 Arena.
He allowed two break points midway through the second set, but overpowered del Potro to leave any doubt of the outcome behind.
“You had a great week, and you are a great champion,” a classy del Potro told Davydenko before the crowd and an ESPN2 audience.
“I surprised myself, I had Russian fans but hopefully now many in England too,” Davydenko said of capturing the year end title. “Next year I will try to do the same.”
Davydenko beat the biggest names in the sport to be the last man standing, knocking off Roger Federer, Robin Soderling, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal earlier in the week.
