Man Murders Children For Food: Reports Of Cannibalism In North Korea’s ‘Hidden Famine’ Surface

Reports surface of cannibalism in the midst of North Korea's hidden famine.

Amidst drought and famine in North Korea, reports are emerging of a starving man who was executed on charges of murdering his two children for food.

Reports from inside the highly secretive state claim that a “hidden famine” in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae has killed up to 10,000 people. In light of the mass starvation occurring, it is feared that incidents of cannibalism have risen for the desperate people. The grim tale is just one to emerge since the beginning of the famine — caused by a drought and compounded by party officials allegedly confiscating food.

Undercover reported from Asia Press reported to the Sunday Times that one man allegedly dug up his grandchild’s corpse for food. Another reportedly boiled his own child for meat to eat. Despite reports of widespread famine, Kim Jong Un, 30, has spent “vast sums of money on two rocket launches in recent months,” reports The Daily Mail.

One informant reported: “In my village in May a man who killed his own two children and tried to eat them was executed by a firing squad.” The informant reported that the father killed his eldest daughter while his wife was away. When his son witnessed the murder, he then killed his son. When his wife returned, she allegedly became suspicious when he reported that he had found “meat,” and contacted officials.

They discovered parts of the children’s bodies and the man was killed by firing party.

Jiro Ishimaru, from Asia Press, which compiled a 12 page report, noting, “Particularly shocking were the numerous testimonies that hit us about cannibalism.”

“The big question here is whether this is all true or new urban legends,” questions Yahoo! News. “Considering this is North Korea and taking into account the country’s propensity to keep secrets and publish propaganda pieces—we’ll likely never get real confirmation from their end.”

It has happened in other countries as well. We ourselves have the story of the Donner party-it's Darwin at it's best and worst.
