NRJ Music Awards: Psy And One Direction Dominate As Taylor Swift Makes Questionable Song Choice

Cannes, France – The NRJ Music Awards saw some of pop music’s biggest stars hit the red carpet on Saturday, with Korean one-hit-wonder Psy and boy band One Direction two of the most notable winners.

Taking place at the breathtaking Palais des Festivals in Cannes, the ceremony saw Korean star Psy scoop three awards. Two of the gongs, for International Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year, were for his little-known underground song “Gangnam Style”. You may have heard it.

Meanwhile, One Direction, who performed their song “Kiss You”, clinched the award for Best International Group.

Other NRJ Music Awards winners included Tal (Breakthrough of the Year), Carly Rae Jepsen (International Breakthrough of the Year), Shy’m (Female Artist of the Year), and Rihanna (International Female Artist of the Year).

The Daily Mail notes that Taylor Swift, who recently split with One Direction’s Harry Styles, performed at the ceremony while her ex watched on. Her choice of song? “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. Er, ouch?

That interesting selection aside, the One Direction chaps seemed to have a marvellous time, with both Styles and bandmate Niall Horan thanking fans and the NRJ Music Awards on Twitter. Styles wrote:

“Thank you so much to @NRJhitmusiconly and our fans for the award!! See you later.xx.”

While Horan added:

“Cannes thank your for today! We had a lot of fun! French fans thanks alot for the award! gona sit lovely beside the TV. (sic)”

However, with three awards in the bag, the night undoubtedly belonged to Psy.
