First Look At Jennifer Hudson In Gritty ‘The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete’


Now that you’ve heard about the buzz-worthy Sundance film Fruitvale, it’s time to hear about a performance out of Sundance that’s getting people talking already. That honor is being given to none other than Jennifer Hudson for her gritty turn in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. The film, which premiered at Park City as part of the Sundance Film Festival made its world premiere.

Now we have your first look at Jennifer Hudson in her role in a very dramatic scene between mother and son. The film, which is shot in Brooklyn is being described by the Hollywood Reporter as: “The tough reality of life among the drugs and guns of the Brooklyn projects as the insurmountable challenge faced by two kids forced to fend for themselves one summer.”

Sundance Film Festival decided to sum up The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete as:

“During a sweltering summer in New York City, 14-year-old Mister’s hard-living mother is apprehended by the police, leaving the boy and nine-year-old Pete alone to forage for food while dodging child protective services and the destructive scenarios of the Brooklyn projects. Faced with more than any child can be expected to bear, the resourceful Mister nevertheless feels he is an unstoppable force against seemingly unmovable obstacles.”

Alongside Jennifer Hudson stars Skylan Brooks, Anthony Mackie, Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Hudson is seen as a drug addict of a mother.
