Sheryl Crow And Lance Armstrong: Singer Urged Cyclist To Come Clean

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong 2012

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were an early 2000s power couple — she a folksy, Lilith Fair-style singer of the era’s anthems and he a cancer survivor and, at the time, massive breakout star in the world of cycling.

Ten or so years ago, Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were both riding (or biking) high, but the pair eventually split, and their visibility declined slightly.

Crow has been around, but Armstrong soon faced what would ultimately define him — a lengthy battle over the practice of doping and a slow and steady strip of the athlete’s many, many titles.

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong hooked up back in 2003, the same year he divorced his wife and the mother of his children. And as Crow was his main squeeze for some time, the current apex of the Livestrong cyclist’s doping scandal has rebounded to the musician as fans wonder what Sheryl knew and how she felt about it.

Now that Armstrong has come clean (to some grumbling and anger at his past attempts to hide doping at all costs), Sheryl Crow has spoken out. The “Leaving Las Vegas” singer has also done some tell-all interviews — none as groundbreaking as Armstrong’s Oprah appearance — to dish on her time with Lance and her knowledge of her doping.

As we reported yesterday, Crow sat down with Katie Couric to talk about Armstrong’s doping admission, but she also found time for Nancy O’Dell of Entertainment Tonight.

Speaking to O’Dell, Crow says that she urged Lance to give up the game and admit to his performance-enhancing ways, saying:

“I think that honesty is always the best bet and that the truth will set you free … To carry around a weight like that would be devastating in the long run.”

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong split in 2006, and, as far as we know, the singer kept his secret all those years.
