Fox Searchlight Drops First Trailer For ‘The East’ [Video]

Fox Searchlight has released a new trailer for its upcoming thriller, The East.

The film stars Ellen Page, Alexander Skarsgard, Brit Marling, and Patricia Clarkson. The film’s summary is as follows:

“Sarah Moss (Marling) is a brilliant operative for an elite private intelligence firm whose top objective is to ruthlessly protect the interests of their A-list corporate clientele. She is assigned to go undercover to infiltrate an anarchist collective known for executing covert attacks upon major corporations. Living amongst them in an effort to get closer to their members, Sarah finds herself unexpectedly torn between two worlds as she starts to fall in love with the group’s charismatic leader, finding her life and her priorities irrevocably changed.”

The East is directed by Zal Batmanglijand written by Batmanglijand Marling. The two previously collaborated on The Sound of My Voice. Early reviews of the film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, were mainly positive. Indiewire‘s Cory Everett called the film a “terrific companion piece for anyone who enjoyed Sound of My Voice.” Everett also said:

“Despite my issues with the film, it’s stylish and sincere and comes from a personal place. Apparently Marling and Batmanglij spent a summer traveling around in a similar fashion to see if they could live for a few months without spending money. Though it functions as a thriller, the film still raises issues worth considering (even if they are surface level concerns).”

A release date for The East has yet to be announced.
