George Stephanopoulos Mistakes Bill Russell For Morgan Freeman

George Stephanopoulos made a strange “all black people look the same” type mistake during ABC’s coverage of President Obama’s inaugural address. As an ABC camera panned to Bill Russell, the announcer mistook him for actor Morgan Freeman.

The NBA Hall of Famer was spotted wearing a Boston Celtics cap (hint #1 that it wasn’t Morgan Freeman).

During the telecast, George Stephanopoulos saw the camera pan to Bill Russell at which point he proclaimed:

“That’s Morgan Freeman, I think, right there on the Capitol steps.”

A moment later George corrected himself:

“No, Bill Russell, I’m sorry.”

We’re pretty sure that Bill Russell didn’t drive Miss Daisy anywhere, and we are almost positive that he’s seven inches taller than Morgan Freeman.

Yeah, we know that mistakes happen, but someone who is calling out famous people on television should probably notice right away who they are talking about.

Here a video of the Morgan Freegan identity mistake:

Morgan Freeman has been making a lot of noise on the internet in recent months, typically over rumors of his early demise and because of controversial political statements. Now Freeman appears to be trending online even when he’s not involved in an event in any way.

If you look at the picture shown above, the two men do share several facial characteristics, especially in the facial hair department.

Can you see how George Stephanopoulos made his mistake, or should he have immediately spotted Bill Russell?
