Danny Gokey Baby: Former ‘American Idol’ Welcomes Birth Of Son

Congratulations are in order for Danny Gokey.

According to People Magazine, the former American Idol star and his wife Leyicet welcomed their first child, a baby boy they named Daniel Emanuel Gokey, on Sunday, January 20.

“Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I’m ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with,” Gokey told People. “Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!”

In addition to the birth of their first child together, the Gokeys will also be celebrating another special day together later this month — their first wedding anniversary.

Almost exactly one year ago, Gokey, 32, and his model wife, 26, exchanged vows in a small ceremony in Florida on Sunday, January 29.

“We are so thankful to have found each other and now be able to spend the rest of our lives together,” the couple said at the time. “We pray our gratitude grows more every day because there is so much for us to do now.”

Prior to his relationship with Leyicet, Gokey was married to his high school sweetheart, Sophia Martinez, who died in 2008 due to complications after a routine surgery for congenital heart disease.

In her honor, Danny founded Sophia’s Heart Foundation to help homeless families.
