Emma Stone Debunks Rumor: I Was Not Drunk At The Academy Awards

Emma Stone, one of the best-loved actresses at the moment, graces the cover of W Magazine’s Movie Issue to talk Oscars and movie roles, and debunks the rumor that she was drunk last time.

In the interview, Emma Stone referenced her presentation alongside Ben Stiller at last year’s Academy Awards. She gave a charming and over-the-top performance as the awards-show newbie who inadvertently gets a bit too excited, and some bought into it thinking Stone was drunk. In a report from the Huffington Post, she replied:

“A lot of people thought it was something else: When I came offstage, they were saying, ‘You were so drunk!’ And I wasn’t. Not until after.”

“We pretended that Ben had been to the Oscars many times and I was this really overly enthusiastic Oscar presenter.”

Emma Stone also discussed the mistaken moment with W Magazine’s editor-at-large Lynn Hirschberg:

“In real life, sometimes it’s uncomfortable for me not to go for the joke. Often, joking for me is a way of diffusing the awkwardness of a situation, so it’s kind of exhilarating to be a part of projects where there’s nothing funny or lighthearted.”

This view might explain Stone’s next project, says Entertainment Wise. The object of “The Amazing Spiderman”‘s affection is converting to a new genre … in horror. She’s cast in “Crimson Peak,” a gothic ghost tale set at the turn of the century (somewhat like Nicole Kidman’s “The Others”), directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The movie is said to start filming in a year.
