‘SimCity’ Four-Day Beta Begins January 25

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the new SimCity game, then you might want to sign up for the four-day beta that’s scheduled to take place next weekend.

The test drive essentially gives anxious gamers an opportunity to play the game ahead of its March release date. According to Cinema Blend, players will be able to participate in a “one hour slice of the game” beginning January 25.

SimCity developer Maxis said in a recent statement:

“The team at Maxis is hard at work rebooting the king of city-simulation games, SimCity! We are extremely excited with our progress so far and would especially like to thank you the fans for your continued participation and support. We are humbled by your passion, it fuels us to work even harder to make the game we’ve been dreaming of, and deliver the SimCity you’ve always wanted.”

According to Joystiq, the announcement of the SimCity beta was made on Twitter. The test drive will reportedly run between January 25 and January 28. The game itself isn’t slated to arrive on retail shelves until March 5.

Those who would love to get an early taste are encouraged to sign up for the beta at the official registration page.

Kotaku reports that a video tutorial for SimCity arrived on YouTube around the same time that the official beta announcement was made. Those who don’t want to waste any time getting to the good stuff should probably watch the clip a few times ahead of January 25.

The website also explains that the beta will be closed, which means the folks at Maxis will ultimately decide who gets to test their latest creation. The “one hour slice” is currently only offered to PC users.

A trailer for the game has been included below.
