Michelle Williams Reveals Battle With Depression

Michelle Williams recently revealed that she’s been battling depression for years.

Williams, one third of the group Destiny’s Child, just dropped a new single and is currently working on a new solo album. She’s also in the touring production of Fela!. But Williams, now 32, still says that she battles with depression.

Williams said:

“I’ve dealt with depression … I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy.”

According to Yahoo News, Williams has been dealing with depression since about 15-years-old. The singer said that she’s never taken medication but she has talked to several professionals about how to deal with her depression.

Williams said:

“We’re taught, ‘Just go to church and pray about it. The Lord is going to heal you.’ Well, in the meantime, I believe God-gifted people, physicians, doctors, therapists — that’s your healing. Take advantage of it. Go see a professional so that they can assess you. It’s OK if you’re going through something. Depression is not OK, but it is OK to go get help.”

Williams latest CD deals with the ideas of depression and struggle. ABC notes that Williams sings on the Christian pop album about personal issues like being bullied.

Williams said:

“Sometimes you’re going to wake up on the wrong side of the bed or some situation might have you down in the dumps, but you have to choose to be happy. I’m choosing life. And I’m hoping this album makes people want to choose life.”

Williams may not be as visible as her former band mate Beyonce but the singer has had a very successful career. She’s currently starring in a Broadway musical, has a solo album on its way out, and there are rumors floating around that she’ll be part of a Destiny’s Child reunion at the Super Bowl.

Williams didn’t reveal any details but she did say that the group would get together sometime in the future.

Williams said:

“Who knows? We make sure not to go too long without doing something.”

Michelle Williams isn’t the only celebrity to open up about their depression recently. Olympian Lindsey Vonn and Hugh Jackman both recently talked about the struggles in their lives.
