Nike CEO Phil Knight: We Haven’t Given Up On Lance Armstrong

Lance Armstrong may have admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he used performance enhancing drugs, but that doesn’t mean Nike CEO Phil Knight has given up on his one-time media darling.

TMZ caught up with Knight in D.C. yesterday where they asked if Nike might make up with Armstrong after originally dropping his contract. Phil’s response? “Never say never.”

Lance Armstrong was dropped by Nike in October. During Armstrong’s contract termination, the company wrote:

“Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him.”

While Phil Knight did not come out and claim Nike would work with Armstrong again in the future, it does appear that the option is still on the table.

Why exactly Nike would work with Lance Armstrong is not known. Lance is forbidden from competing in any professional worldwide cycling events and has been dropped from many other endurance events as a result of his PED use.

Oprah Winfrey claims that Lance Armstrong “brought it” during his interview but also that she was expecting more from his drug use revelations.

Do you think Nike will ever form another partnership with Lance Armstrong?
