Westboro Baptist Church Gets Permit To Protest Obama Inauguration
It wouldn’t be a proper presidential inauguration without our friends from the Westboro Baptist Church on-site to remind us all that we’re going to hell and that their twisted version of God celebrates the deaths of children and soldiers, now would it?
Well it’s true, everyone’s favorite haters have secured a permit to protest the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, reports HuffPo.
A press release from Westboro Baptist, colorfully titled “The Beast Is In The Whitehouse,” reveals the hate group’s plan to protest the inauguration on January 21. Though I appreciate some elected-official-trolling as much as the next guy, the presence of Westboro Baptist officially rules Obama’s second inauguration as “not a party.”
I thought Anonymous bankrupted these guys?
Though Westboro has proven to be more bark than bite in the past, having promised protests at the funeral of Aaron Swartz and the child victims of the Newtown massacre without showing up for either, they actually do have an official permit to be at Obama’s inauguration.
They will picket along Pennsylvania Avenue at the north sidewalk, southeast corner of John Marshall Park, from 7am to 2:30pm on January 21. Just in case you want to find them.
The petition to brand Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group is the most popular on the White House website. It reads:
“This group has been recognized as a hate group by organizations, such as The Southern Poverty Law Center, and has repeatedly displayed the actions typical of hate groups. Their actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation.”
