‘Dubstep Bird’ Drops Some Phat Beats [Viral Video]

A pet cockatiel might just be the next YouTube sensation. Though 2012 was the year of PSY and “Gangnam Style,” 2013 just might be the year of “Dubstep bird,” a pet that drops some sick beats in a video that’s quickly going viral.

Justin Bieber and PSY got their start on YouTube, and now Harvey the cockatiel just might stand a chance at joining them as “Dubstep bird,” a pet bird that … well … sings dubstep. Dubstep DJs have been criticzed before for using way too much MacBook and not enough music, but not even Skrillex can’t hold a candle to Harvey, who tweets dubstep completely a capella.

“Just my bird Harvey dropping some fat beats,” writes YouTube user Rainykauke, who also apologizes for the poor cropping of the video. But you don’t need to be watching to get the idea. Harvey rocks back and forth on Rainykauke’s finger laying a dance tune that’s certain to get anyone moving.

With 22,000 likes, 2,500 comments, and nearly 500,000 views as of this writing, “Dubstep bird” is officially a viral video. Commenters thus far have been kind:

“I hate dubstep with a passion it is the new age kids music and like a typical old fart I hate it.. However.. This little bird was cute as hell and dropping some phat beats cant deny that this little bird has talent,” wrote user Ryan Saunders.

I can only hope that I don’t have to write a retraction article tomorrow should some computer-savvy schlub expose this thing as a hoax. It just isn’t right that one can’t freely trust anyone on the internet, isn’t it?

Anyway, here’s the “Dubstep bird.” What do you think?
