Hedberg Stops 34 Shots; Thrashers Send Oilers to Third Straight Loss



AtlantaTrashers_johan-hedbergAtlanta, GA (AHN) – Johan Hedberg made 34 saves, and Slava Kozlov had a goal and an assist to lift the Atlanta Thrashers over the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 Sunday.

Atlanta (10-6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Zach Bogosian scored on a power play at 4:37.

Shawn Horcoff tied the game up for the Oilers 39 seconds into the second on Steve Staios’s feed.

Oilers’ Dustin Penner defeated Hedberg for the 2-1 lead later in the frame.

It was Penner’s 12th tally of the season.

Thrashers’ sniper Maxim Afinogenov notched the equalizer at 19:38 in the period with a wrist shot to make it 2-2.

The Thrashers (8-10-2) took the lead for good in the last frame.

Kozlov, who has struggled this season, blasted a snap shot past Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin (27 saves) for his first tally of the season.

It was Edmonton’s third consecutive loss and Atlanta’s fourth-straight win.
