Monopoly Game Piece: Hasbro Makes Changes To Iconic Board Game

Hasbro Gaming is making changes to one of its iconic Monopoly game pieces, and it’s letting the players decide which one is getting the proverbial boot.

The company is reportedly looking to update the classic board game by swapping out one of the tokens for something a little different. That means the battle ship, top hat, Scottie dog, race car, iron, wheelbarrow, thimble, or shoe could find itself being axed from Boardwalk forever.

According to Mashable, fans of the game can use their Twitter or Facebook accounts to choose which of the pieces is getting replaced. If you’re like to have your say on the matter, then you’d better cast your vote before February 3.

In order to get people involved on Twitter, the company has even created a special hashtag for the occasion. Those individuals who’d like to share their favorite Monopoly game piece with the world should include #tokenvote in their posts.

According to the Daily Mail, Hasbro already has a few tokens lined up to replace the one that doesn’t strike a chord with the game’s fans. In addition to a cat and a guitar, the company could add a robot, diamond ring, or helicopter to the game.

Hasbro Gaming’s Eric Nyman said in a statement:

“The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favorite one. When we decided to replace one of the tokens in the game, we knew we had to involve our fans in the process. We can’t wait to see which iconic piece will ‘go to jail’ and which new token the fans will choose to become part of one of the world’s most popular games.”

What’s your favorite Monopoly game piece? Are you sad that one of the game’s iconic tokens will be replaced this year?
