Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was reportedly fired tonight with one year left on his contract according to multiple media reports.
The Dallas defense, plagued by injuries, finished up the season 17th against the run and 21st against the pass.
In a related development, the New York Jets parted ways with offensive coordinator Tony Sparano and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, whose contract expired. That means there is an potential opening for Rex Ryan’s twin brother on the Jets.
Yahoo! Sports reports on the potential family reunion of the Ryan brothers:
“And with Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine moving on to greener pastures (as confirmed by Rex in Tuesday morning’s press conference), there will certainly speculation that the Ryan brothers, who have not worked on the same staff since they coached under father Buddy Ryan for the 1994 and 1995 Arizona Cardinals, might work together again.”
Rob Ryan also held worked for the Oakland Raiders and the Cleveland Browns in the same capacity before joining the Cowboys.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Rob Ryan got the word that he was being let go by telephone while he was on vacation in the Caribbean:
“He was in Turks & Caicos with his wife, Kristin, and had just returned from dinner Tuesday evening when he received a call from head coach Jason Garrett.”
Ryan said he has no hard feelings against the Cowboys and that he is confident that will find another NFL position.
Do you think that Rob Ryan is going to hook up with Rex Ryan on the New York Jets staff in 2013?
