Federer Falls in France; Loses to Unseeded Benneteau

Paris, France (AHN) – Frenchman Julien Benneteau used some home cooking to stun Swiss top seed Roger Federer 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in a second-round of the Paris Masters match Wednesday.
Federer, who seemingly has won everything everywhere has not enjoyed success at Palais Omnisports, never advancing further than the quarterfinals.
Benneteau was determined to play better than he did in two previous matches vs. Federer, in which he lost both times in straight sets.
Mission accomplished, as he shook off a first set loss to begin matching Federer’s play in the second.
He showed poise and confidence in outplaying R-Fed in the second set tiebreaker.
Benneteau, who will take on fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils in the quarters, even capped the win with a service ace.
Juan Martin Del Potro and Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals in play earlier in the day.
