Matt Dallas Gay: ‘Kyle XY’ Star Announces Engagement To Boyfriend

Matt Dallas has come out as gay, as the Kyle XY star recently announced that he and his boyfriend have gotten engaged.

Dallas came out with a tweet on Saturday night, announcing that he and musician boyfriend Blue Hamilton are planning their wedding.

“Starting off the year with a new fiancé, @bluehamilton. A great way to kick off 2013!” Matt Dallas, star of the ABC Family series, wrote.

Until Saturday, the 26-year-old Dallas was not public with his sexuality, though The Huffington Post notes there were rumors for years. He had been linked to Mean Girls actor Jonathan Bennett after they were spotted out together in West Hollywood.

Dallas, who has only had minor roles since the end of Kyle XY, is rumored to be making a return to ABC Family in the show Baby Daddy.

His coming out signals a change in Hollywood, where it is no longer a big to-do to announce sexual preference, said HuffPost Gay Voices Editor-at-Large and SiriusXM host Michelangelo Signorile.

Signorile said:

“Gone are the days of the ‘Yep, I’m Gay’ magazine covers with celebrities making a spectacle of coming out, and thus focusing on the fact that they were in the humiliating and painful gay closet… The closet isn’t going away any time soon. But one step toward dismantling it among public figures it to make it a difficult and embarrassing place to be. From the looks of the latest celebrity self-outings, that’s perhaps starting to take hold.”

Matt Dallas’ fiance is a 25-year-old indie record producer who has worked with Justin Bieber. The pair reportedly started dating in 2009, the New York Daily News reported.
