Truex, Team Owner Penalized By NASCAR

Daytona Beach, FL (AHN) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr. fell two spots in the points standings Tuesday and he never even started his car. Truex, driver of Earnhardt Ganassi’s No. 1 Chevrolet, crew chief Kevin Manion and owner Teresa Earnhardt were all penalized by NASCAR Tuesday after his car failed post-race inspection Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. The team was penalized for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-12.8.1B (front of the car did not meet the required height specification; too low in post-race inspection). Manion was fined $50,000 and remains on probation the rest of the year. Earnhardt and Truex Jr., were each penalized with the loss of 50 owner and driver points, respectively.
As a result, Truex dropped from 24th to 26th in the points standings, giving up spots to Elliott Sadler and AJ Allmendinger.
