Even though she is no longer with him, Courteney Cox said she still loves her soon-to-be ex-husband David Arquette.
Cox told Ellen DeGeneres that the two have managed to stay friends and remain on good terms with each other, despite announcing their separation over two years ago.
Cox said, “He’s my best friend in the world. I love him.”
The 48-year-old Cougar Town star also said that she now appreciates Arquette, 41, more than she did while they were still together.
“I don’t recommend divorce in general, but he is my best friend and we’ve both grown and changed, and I think we both appreciate each other more,” she said.
That the two still remain close — despite Arquette now dating Entertainment Tonight correspondent Christina McClarty — is evident in the fact that Arquette still serves as an executive director on Cougar Town, and even guest starred as hotel concierge in the third season finale. The comedy series is produced by their company, Coquette Productions, which they launched in 2004. The short-lived FX serial, Dirt, was also produced by Coquette.
Cox and Arquette filed for divorce in June 2012. They both cited irreconcilable differences, and both requested joint custody of their 8-year-old daughter, Coco. The two married on June 12, 1999 and Coco was born almost exactly five years later on June 13, 2004. Cox’s Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston is the godmother.
Besides working together on Cougar Town, Cox and Arquette appeared in 2011’s Scream 4 together, reprising their roles as Gale Weathers Riley and Dewey Riley.
Cox’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show will air Monday, January 7.
