‘Dredd’ Blu-Ray Release Gets Its Own Trailer [Video]

The Blu-ray release of director Pete Travis’ criminally ignored movie Dredd is right around the corner. In order to get people excited about the film’s arrival on home video, the folks at Lionsgate have unleashed yet another trailer online.

Despite receiving mostly positive reviews from a number of top critics, Travis’ violent endeavor was largely avoided by moviegoers when it arrived in theaters last year. According to Box Office Mojo, the film only earned around $13 million at the box office. Worldwide, Dredd managed to pull in $30 million, which is roughly $20 million shy of its production budget.

The movie was based on the comic book character Judge Joseph Dredd created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, and 2000 A.D. editor Pat Mills. Dredd was previously adapted for the big screen in 1995 by I Still Know What You Did Last Summer director Danny Cannon. The film starred Sylvester Stallone, Armand Assante, and Rob Schneider.

Director Pete Travis’ version of Dredd found Star Trek and Lord of the Rings alum Karl Urban tackling the role.

Super Hero Hype describes the film’s plot as follows:

“In the film, the future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its east coast, running from Boston to Washington D.C., lies Mega City One — a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called ‘Judges’ who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge, a dangerous drug called ‘Slo-Mo,’ and the sadistic crime boss Ma-Ma who is using it to take over the city.”

If you missed the theatrical trailers for Dredd prior to the film’s release, then you can fix that problem by having a look at the Blu-ray promo below.
