Awards Watch: PGA Nominations Include ‘Lincoln,’ ‘Argo,’ & ‘Skyfall’

Looks as though it’s another positive push for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. Earlier today the Producers Guild of America nominations were announced. As always, there was some surprises that may lead to a huge game changer when the Academy Awards nominations are announced.

The PGA Awards are considered to be one of the leading indicators for how the rest of the award season is going to pan out, especially for the Academy Award for the Best Picture category.

Skyfall, which is the first James Bond film to ever receive the PGA nomination, topped the list along with fan favorites Argo and Lincoln. Django Unchained proved that it won’t be deterred by its December 25 release and earned a producer nomination along with fellow Christmas Day film Les Miserables.

One of the films missing from the PGA nominations was none other than widely received The Master. Back when the film was released in September, it was considered to be a promising Oscar contender, but, now that it has missed out on the nomination, things don’t look that well for the much buzzed about film. Combine that with the fact that its lead star, Joaquin Phoenix, hasn’t received twice the nominations he was originally expected, and we may have a problematic situation when the Academy Awards are announced in two weeks.

In addition, nominated for outstanding producer of the year went to the animated motion picture producers of Brave, Frankenweenie,ParaNormal, and Rise of the Guardians, and Wreck-It-Ralph.
