Chelsea Clinton Pays Tearful Visit To Mother Hillary In Hospital

Chelsea Clinton has visited mother Hillary in hospital as the 65-year-old receives treatment for a blood clot between her brain and skull.

A clearly distressed Chelsea (above, left) visited her mother in New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center over the weekend just hours before doctors confirmed Hillary Clinton’s blood clot was in a vein that carries blood away from the brain.

The New York Daily News spotted Chelsea Clinton leaving the hospital, reporting how:

“[...] the scare appeared to alarm the former First Daughter. The News spotted a distraught Chelsea Clinton emerging from a side entrance of the hospital, bundled up against the cold in a black down coat and red scarf. The unsmiling Chelsea, clutching a cell phone in one hand as she spoke with a furrowed brow, did not respond to a question shouted by a News reporter.”

Fortunately, it seems the Secretary of State is expected to make a full recovery. In an official statement released Monday, Hillary Clinton’s doctors provided an update on Clinton’s condition:

“In the course of a routine follow-up MRI on Sunday, the scan revealed that a right transverse sinus venous thrombosis had formed. This is a clot in the vein that is situated in the space between the brain and the skull behind the right ear. It did not result in a stroke, or neurological damage.

“To help dissolve this clot, her medical team began treating the Secretary with blood thinners. She will be released once the medication dose has been established. In all other aspects of her recovery, the Secretary is making excellent progress and we are confident she will make a full recovery. She is in good spirits, engaging with her doctors, her family, and her staff.”

As well as Chelsea Clinton, husband and former President Bill Clinton has also been pictured leaving the New York hospital where his wife is recovering.

In other news, ambassador John Bolton has refused to withdraw his comments from December 18 that Clinton may have been feigning a concussion to avoid testifying before Congress about the attack on the US mission in Benghazi, Libya. During an interview on Fox News, Bolton had remarked:

“This is a ‘diplomatic illness’ to beat the band.”

Despite doctors diagnosing a blood clot on Clinton’s brain, Bolton remains unrepentant, a response that has not gone down well on Twitter:

You are right Angelia, and just think….WE are paying for her "high standard" of medical care. Many Americans can't afford it for themselves, yet we are forced to pay for the insurance of EVERY political figure in this country. Even after they retire from office, they still receive ALL the benefits!!

Bless you and yours, Hillary and may you have nothing less than a full and speedy recovery.

Lots of people agree with Bolton's assessment of the situation.. The Clinton's are just "those" kind of people.. Wonder why Slick Willie doesn't make the news when he visits. Or maybe it's because he hasn't visited..

you are in my prayers. may your recovery be complete. get back on your feet soon. Chelsea, take heart. everything will be alright.

Why, you don't have good insurance where you work at the Securities and Exchange Commission? If you do, you'll get the same medical care and treatment. If you don't, blame your bosses, not Hillary Clinton. She pushed for universal health care the whole time she was first lady.

This is the standard treatment for a person that has been started on a thrombolytic agent(blood thinner). If the person dosage is to high they could bleed to death. Nothing unusual, but someone in the hospital for over a month with a cough is pushing the DRG(hospital code) limits. If you don't know what you are talking about…don't comment.

So…the doctor's are lying about a blood clot? Sorry Ed, but this sounds like more Republican vitriol. All this rhetoric (like "fiscal cliff") are just words to stir up hatred or keep the hate going. Sad really when the love of money–and that's what this country is about these days–makes it impossible to feel compassion for another person. Hillary Clinton doesn't deserve to be kicked when she's down. Bolton's behavior says everything I need to know about him.

Interesting in that most children would be upset were a parent hospitalized with a blood clot — this is not worthy of a news article. Of course, Chelsea is distressed.

What kind of a person can doubt, to spite all presented facts, that Hilary would fake her illness. I guess her doctors and the hospital are also in on the big cover up??? I have read that President Clinton has also visited Hilary, so what??? I hope you never have an illness & are accused of faking it.

I wish Hillary Clinton a speedy recovery, but, you can't blame people for raising questions because of her dishonesty in the past. Just for the record, many people lied about Bolton.

What an idiot you are, Ed – I've seen news reports about President Bill Clinton visiting his wife. I've seen video of his car leaving the hospital parking garage too – so you're wrong about his visits not making the news. And Bolton's assessment is totally wrong and incredibly disrespectful. He had NO evidence whatsoever to doubt the story that she was ill from a stomach bug, that she suffered a concussion, that she had concussive syndrome after that which make her need to stay home, quietly, and he has no reason now to NOT apologize profusely for ever suggesting that she was faking anything. Yet he won't. The fact that YOU defend him is disgusting.

Wishing you a fast recovery and enjoying your time with the family. Stop and smell the roses. You have been a honorable Secretary Of State. Thank you.

@ PLain @ Edna.. you folks are kind of naive about DC Politics and how it plays into the hospitals.. As far as kicking Hillary when she is down, Maybe you should inform yourself over Benghazi and the lost of Lives… Seems those guys were down and were kicked.. Karma is a heck of a thing..

Ed.. You ugly old hateful man. Shame on you. You and the other spiteful people posting here are an embarrassment to yourselves and your party.

I wish Hillary a speedy recovery, and pray for her safety until she testifies.

Get well soon Hilly May……You can testify when you feel better.

To those that commented to me that this was or is not the time or place ..I see no better place. A Senator, Member of Congress, Secretary of State is a human being and yes deserves human moral decent medical treatment, as do all humans and Anericans. It shouldn't matter who you are or your status and yet clearly it does. My mother lies in a hospital today as she has for the past two weeks with little care or treatment.

Ms. Sobin are you really so naive to consider that a SEC govt employee has the same health benefits or entitlements as the Secretary of State? Really? Seriously? If so, I want to live in your fantasy! For the record my post references my parent a retired VA vet that cannot get the time of day at the Veteran Administration, the VA doctors or a private care faculty for himself or his dying spouse. Now your comment is? Mine remains I wish we all had the same level of health care! But yes I'm glad the Clinton's are recovering well, my mother is still suffering (two weeks and counting).
