Rory McIlroy sparked engagement rumors when his girlfriend showed up wearing a huge diamond ring on her left hand, but now the golfer and Carolyn Wozniaki deny that they’re preparing to be married.
Wozniaki, a 22-year-old tennis player, was seen wearing a big diamond and sapphire jewel when she arrived at Brisbane International Airport on Friday with her boyfriend, Rory McIlroy.
Wozniaki didn’t seem too secretive about what appeared to be her engagement to Rory McIlroy. From Golf Week:
“Wozniacki did little to hide the square-cut ring, which is similar to the Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement ring from Prince William more than two years ago.
“She flashed her new accessory when she arrived for her practice session at the Queensland Tennis Center before competing in the Brisbane International. She removed the ring before she took the court.”
The natural speculation was that they were headed down the aisle, but McIlroy denied engagement rumors.
A spokeswoman for Caroline told the MailOnline: “This is not true.”
The denial of the McIlroy engagement rumors makes sense to those familiar with Danish culture where Wozniaki comes from. It’s tradition for Danish woman to wear engagement and wedding rings on their right hands, meaning the new ring for Caroline is likely a Christmas present.
Rory McIlroy, the No. 1 ranked Northern Irish golfer later went to watch his girlfriend practice for the Brisbane International tennis tournament — minus the ring, which she took off while she played.
This wasn’t the first time Caroline Wozniaki and Rory McIlroy denied engagement rumors. Back in November, Serena Williams’ hitting partner Sascha Bajin played a prank on Wozniaki on Twitter, congratulating her on the couple’s happy news.
