WWE News: Chris Jericho Says WWE Does Not Play Well With Others

When a superstar leaves the WWE, they have the choice to either work with other promotions or just wait out their time until the WWE calls them back. When it comes to legends and future WWE Hall of Fame stars, they usually don’t risk their stake with the company by wrestling for rival promotions. That makes the current status of Chris Jericho interesting.

Chris Jericho Is A WWE Free Agent

When the announcement arrived that Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega were wrestling each other at New Japan Professional Wrestling’s WrestleKingdom 12, many fans wondered about his contract situation with the WWE. Some assumed that the WWE was allowing NJPW to use Jericho for the event but it turns out that isn’t true.

According to Dave Meltzer, it turns out that Chris Jericho’s WWE contract expired and he is actually an official free agent. Jericho has been signing short-term contracts with the WWE for a few years now. He would sign for three or six months and then just work out extensions as needed.

However, there might have been something that happened recently that caused Chris Jericho to agree to work for New Japan Professional Wrestling instead of working more matches with the WWE and it concerns his upcoming Rock and Wrestling cruise.

The WWE Didn’t Want To Work With Jericho On His Cruise

Chris Jericho appeared on the Killing the Town podcast and made an interesting comment about his upcoming cruise. The event will have professional wrestling action mixed with rock concerts, including a performance by Jericho’s band Fozzy.

When discussing the cruise on his podcast, Chris Jericho said that he approached the WWE and Triple H about having NXT talent highlight his cruise professional wrestling matches. The WWE rejected the idea and then Jericho made an interesting comment about the event.

“They don’t play well with others.”

Instead of WWE NXT talent working with Chris Jericho on this cruise, Y2J has worked out a deal with Ring of Honor to wrestle on his show. This is a huge decision when looking at who Jericho has booked to appear – The Young Bucks and Marty Scurll.

The reason this is interesting is that those are three of the Ring of Honor stars who showed up outside an episode of Monday Night Raw and made Vince McMahon so angry with their appearance that he sent a cease and desist order for the Young Bucks to stop using their famous nWo and DX homage in their work.

There is also the interesting fact that they are members of The Bullet Club, which Kenny Omega is the leader of right now. Omega not only works for NJPW but also for Ring of Honor, meaning he could show up on the cruise to continue his angle with Chris Jericho, although that is still a year away.
