Brush fires threatening LA suburb of Diamond Bar, no evacuations yet

Five to eight brush fires were reported around 11:45 PDT near State Route 60 in the Los Angeles suburb Diamond Bar.

Wind direction seems to be favoring firefighting efforts in the fire-plagued state, and evacuations are voluntary at this point. Two people were detained in connection with the fires in the suburb 25 miles east of downtown LA. The fires appeared to be under control as of 1:30pm PDT.

The LA Times reports that the driver and passenger of a pickup truck have been detained for possibly causing the fires by accident. Investigators say the pickup truck was emitting “burning debris” unbeknownst to the people inside. It is unclear whether charges will be filed in relation to the incident.
