‘Godzilla’ Image Showcases The Iconic Monster’s Destructive Power [Photo]

The first image from director Gareth Edward’ Godzilla reboot has found its way online. The picture gives moviegoers a good look at the giant lizard’s destructive power.

Unfortunately for those hoping to get a look at the iconic monster, the image you see embedded below doesn’t offer up even a glimpse of the big green lizard. Given that the film isn’t slated to hit theaters until 2014, the studio may keep the secret closer to its chest for a while longer.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the image was taken from the sizzle reel which screened at the San Diego Comic Con last summer. Production on the film itself has yet to begin. The trailer and the image were designed to show folks how Edwards intended to tackle the project.

During a recent interview with Collider, producer Dan Lin said filming could begin as early as next March.

He told the website:

“[Gareth] took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?”

According to the Facebook page Godzilla 3D, eagle-eyed fans of the low budget cult hit The Room noticed that star Tommy Wiseau had been added to Edwards’ reboot of Godzilla. However, it’s likely that Wiseau’s role will be a brief cameo as opposed to a starring role.

Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla stomps into theaters on May 16, 2014.
