Berea, OH (AHN) – Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner indicated that he inot planning on firing head coach Eric Mangini over the team’s bye week following the humiliating loss in Chicago Sunday that dropped the team to a 1-7 record.

Despite being apparently fed up with the direction of his organization, Lerner is not willing to give up on the Browns first-year head coach, the Cleveland-Plain Dealer reported.

The Browns owner, however, indicated that he wanted some changes in the team. Lerner reportedly wants to add a football executive, who would have full authority to run the team’s football operations that might spur improvement. The Browns, who are coming off a 30-6 setback to Chicago, scored just five offensive TDs in eight contests.

For Mangini’s part, he indicated that the bye week will be spent in finding ways to correct the miserable state of the Browns, who occupy last place in the AFC North. The on-going carousel at the quarterback position between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson has contributed to team’s disappointing record.

Since returning to the NFL in 1999, the Browns have registered just two winning seasons.
