Nuku’alofa, Tonga (AHN) – A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck south of Tonga on Monday but there were no reports of damage or tsunami, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 205 miles south of the island’s capital Nuku’alofa at 6.2 miles deep. The quake hit at 9:28 a.m.

The earthquake was the latest to hit the south Pacific island nation after an 8 magnitude temblor originating in the northern island of Niuatoputapu generated a tsunami that killed 143 people in neighboring Samoa and 34 others in American Samoa.
