Dutch Team Upset At World Solar Challenge, Tokai Challenger Wins

A Japanese team competing in Australia’s World Solar Challenge took top honors this week in the 1,864 mile solar car race, upsetting the 4-time Dutch champs.
The car, known as the Tokai Challenger finished the race in 29 hours and 49 minutes, including a quick “pit stop” for a flat tire. That time provided an average speed of 63mpg.
The original record was set in 2005 by the Dutch team with a time of 29 hours and 11 minutes, however different variables are included in determining the fastest car, including wind conditions, amount of sunlight. [Gizmodo]
