‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 9: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder Will Reportedly Reprise Their Roles

The finale episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premiered on March 10, 2017, but fans of Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley are still hoping that The CW will announce a new season featuring all their favorite characters. The creative mind behind The Vampire Diaries is currently busy with The Originals Season 5 but the recent report indicates that fans want Ian to portray Damon Salvatore in one more season.

According to recent speculations, Ian Somerhalder is reportedly going to reprise his iconic character as he had teased his fans that the cast and crew have already started filming The Vampire Diaries Season 9.

“We start shooting Season 9 next week!”

During his interview, Ian joked about the filming of the next season. But according to recent claims, he is reportedly going to portray his character for sure.

“There are hopes that the series will be given a reboot. The audience is excited to see Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesly, and Nina Dobrev in the next season,” reads the recent claims.

It was not long ago when Nina Dobrev shared that after playing Elena Gilbert and Katherine for The Vampire Diaries for straight seven years, she felt that it was time to move on and explore other opportunities. In the October issue of Rogue Magazine, she stated she even thought it was a big risk, she wanted to leave the world of the supernatural beings to enhance her acting abilities.

“I also played Katherine, this ancient vixen who was manipulative and crazy. Then I grew into myself as a woman — I found that part of myself while playing that role — I grew with the show and I wanted to continue to grow outside of it,” she shared.

Nina Dobrev left the show after Season 6 and she did appear one more time just because of her promise to Julie Plec. That being said, it is highly unlikely that fans will get to see her playing the role of ancient vixen again.

Apparently, this is not for the first time when the speculations of Nina Dobrev sharing screen space with Ian Somerhalder has surfaced online. Prior to the rumors indicating The Vampire Diaries Season 9, there was a report that both Nina and Ian returned to the series’ finale just to save their failing acting career. The report further pointed out that after quitting The Vampire Diaries after Season 6, Dobrev got the opportunity to work in some good feature-length films but Somerhalder had no such luck.

“A paying acting job is better than being unemployed and auditioning for bit parts. Ian is pushing 40, and let’s face it, not all that talented,” the report further read.

To save their acting career, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder will reportedly join the cast and crew of The Originals, the reports further claimed.

However, the merging of characters of The Vampire Diaries with the storyline of The Originals does sound a good idea but it is not what executive producer Julie Plec wants. As earlier reported by the Inquisitr, Plec admitted that all of TVD fans wish to see a crossover, but merging two different shows would affect their viewership.

As of this writing, there is no official confirmation from The CW or from the executive producers of The Vampire Diaries about the fate of the next season. As many of the supernatural series’ fans know this for a fact that Julie Plec is busy with The Originals Season 5. Even Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have their own individual projects to look forward to in 2018. So, the chances of them reprising their roles of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore are pretty slim.

It is still not confirmed whether The CW will go ahead with any more seasons of TVD. Do you think that The Vampire Diaries deserves one more season and Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley should reprise their respective roles? Sound off your views in the comments below.
