Husband Arrested For Wisconsin Officer’s Death

Benjamin Sebena had been sent to Milwaukee County Jail on Wednesday night on the tentative charge of first-degree intentional homicide, the Wauwatosa police department said in a statement. The death of his wife, Officer Jennifer L. Sebena, on Christmas Eve could be pinned on him.

Officer Sebena was fatally shot on Christmas Eve while patrolling in suburban Milwaukee, and as of yet, the shooter has not been officially identified.

Mr. Sebena has not been formally charged in the death of his 30-year-old wife. A message has been left with the district attorney’s office for further comment, according to Yahoo News.

Ben Sebena, 30, is an honored U.S. Marine, having served two tours in Iraq before suffering severe arm and leg injuries in a mortar attack resulting in honorable discharge, says Pastor Scott Arbeiter of Elmbrook Church in nearby Brookfield. It seems unlikely that a man of such heroic stature could commit such a crime, but until the murder has been solved and the one responsible arrested, all suspects must be accounted for. It is due process.

Among his 10 medals and commendations were a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct medal and a badge as a rifle expert, says the Star Tribune.

Police officers found Sebena’s body early Monday morning after her failure to respond to radio calls. She had been shot multiple times. Police have released few details about the shooting, as nothing conclusive is yet known.

Jennifer Sebena had worked for the Wauwatosa police department for two years and in the department’s 96 years, her death was the first recorded on active duty. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday.

It was unclear if Ben Sebena had a lawyer. Assistant district attorney Kent Lovern said he didn’t know if anyone was representing Sebena yet or even if Sebena would be formally charged on Thursday.
