Mark Cuban Talks NBA, ‘Shark Tank,’ And Being Rich On Reddit

Mark Cuban has been sharing a lot of personal information with the internet recently. The owner of the Dallas Mavericks recently live tweeted about kidney stones, and, over the Christmas holiday, the NBA team owner opened up on Reddit about professional sports, his reality show Shark Tank, and what it’s like to be a millionaire.

Cuban participated in an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit. Several celebrities and politicians have done AMAs on Reddit. Neil deGrasse Tyson, Louis C.K., and President Barack Obama have all done AMAs recently, and, on Christmas Eve, Mark Cuban stepped up to the plate to answer the internet’s questions.

Cuban may be best known as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, but he also runs several other businesses and frequently invests, via the show Shark Tank, in small businesses. When asked about advice on starting a small business, Cuban said:

“It’s not about the idea, its about how prepared you are. Everyone has ideas, most dont do the work required to get the job done. The 2nd thing you need to know is that sales are the most important aspect of a small business. No sales, no company.”

Cuban, who has a net worth of over $2 billion according to Forbes, also answered questions about being a billionaire on Reddit.

For instance, Cuban said that his Christmas presents are always under $200, that he likes to give big tips to bartenders/servers since he once worked in the industry, and that he never “makes it rain.” Making it rain can land you in jail, and, according to Cuban, it’s something that real rich people don’t really do.

Cuban said: “No. That’s dumb shit that people with real money don’t do.”

Cuban also answered questions about the Mavericks’ chances this year.

“I think Dirk will help OJ’s game a bunch. Up till now teams have really overloaded their Ds to stop OJ. With Dirk back it should open things up for OJ and the rest of our offense. If we can stop turning the ball over we will ok. If not, not. The turnovers are driving me crazier than this damn kidney stone surgery Ive had to deal with. I think the turnovers are more painful.”
