Sam Champion Married: ‘Good Morning America’ Anchor Weds Rubem Robierb

Good Morning America weatherman Sam Champion has married his longtime partner Rubem Robierb, People magazine reports.

Champion, 51, and Robierb, a 35-year-old fine-arts photographer, officially tied the knot in an intimate 10-minute ceremony performed by New York State Supreme Court Justice George J. Silver at Champion’s NYC apartment on Friday.

While details on the couple’s special day were scant, AceShowbiz reports the pair was surrounded by friends, family and Champion’s fellow GMA anchors Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliot.

Roberts, who is currently recovering from her bone marrow transplant, reportedly read a poem written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning to give her blessing to the couple.

Though Robierb’s family was unable to attend the wedding in person, Ace notes they Skyped in from Brazil to be a part of the beautiful event.

After the wedding, Champion and his new husband both took to Twitter to share the good news.

Sam tweeted:

“Thank you for ur love and support! THE most wondeerful day!”

Champion’s Brazilian-born groom Rubem was equally thrilled as he showed off their wedding bands in a Twitter picture with a caption

“Now we are officially married.”

According to E!Online, Sam and Rubem, who announced their engagement in October, met through mutual friends a few years ago in Miami, where Robierb resides.

Sources say the couple plan to celebrate with friends at a bigger reception on December 31 in Miami.

When asked the best thing about getting married, Champion said:

“I’m looking forward to spending every day of the rest of my life with a guy who just makes me a better person to be around him.”
