NRA Membership Increasing 8,000 A Day After Sandy Hook Shooting

NRA membership rolls are rising rapidly at a record-setting pace, increasing by 8,000 new NRA members per day since the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting. According to Fox News, both the number of individual contributions to the NRA and their average amount have risen significantly in the period following the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

Unlike many who are using the school shooting as a political club, the National Rifle Association (NRA) has been staying quiet out of respect for the Newtown victims. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, on Tuesday the NRA released a statement:

“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters — and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.”

In the past, NRA membership has grown after any major event involving guns. Even President Obama’s winning the Presidency was a catalyst for joining the NRA and a subsequent run on gun and ammo. But the level of new NRA membership supposedly “dwarfs past trends” according to Fox News.

Breitbartbelieves the quickly increasing membership in the NRA is a more accurate indicator of the national mood than any political polls that claim that gun control and gun bans should be the future of America:

“Perhaps the aftermath of this incident is different because it’s one in which the public has a growing knowledge that gun bans, gun-free school zones, and restrictions on law-abiding citizens have only fueled crime by providing the mentally ill and criminally-minded with helpless, soft targets that they can strike at will?

“The message 8,000 new NRA members a day is sending is clear: Enough is enough. Gun control is not the answer, law-abiding citizens owning and carrying guns for their own defense is.”

Are you a newly minted NRA member? Do you believe the increase in NRA membership is an accurate method for assessing what people think should be done about gun control reform?
