Dropbox has purchased photo aggregation platform Snapjoy. The company collected images that have been captured on cameras and phones as well as photos posted to popular social networks including Flickr, Twitter, Instagram, and others. Snapjoy then shares its aggregated collections vis an iOS app and through its website.

According to TechCrunch, terms of the deal have not been release. The tech blog notes that other companies were also showing interest in Snapjoy before it was acquired by Dropbox.

Speaking about the acquisition Michael Dwan, co-founder of Snapjoy, said his platforms user experience was “limited by our development capacity and the economics of scale.” By joining the Dropbox team, Dwan says Snapjoy will receive the help it needs to develop and the talent it needs to succeed.

On its official blog, SnapJoy’s founders write:

“So what happens next? First and foremost, don’t worry — your photos are safe! Though we won’t be accepting new signups, existing users can continue to use Snapjoy to share and enjoy photos just as you do now. We’ll be in touch with more information over the coming weeks.

Dropbox is a competent cloud system, and it already acts as a photo backup program for various mobile apps. At this time, it is unclear how Dropbox will integrate Snapjoy with its own product base.

The cloud storage company has been on a buying spree of late. Last week the company announced the acquisition of streaming music service Audiogalaxy.
