Study: Millions of U.S. Kids Vitamin D Deficient

Boston, MA (AHN) – U.S. health researchers say millions of American children suffer from vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to a host of childhood illnesses.
The study’s author, Dr. Jonathan Mansbach, of the Children’s Hospital Boston, said in a statement that the problem is particularly severe among black and Hispanic children.
Mansbach and his colleagues recommended in the study that children take vitamin D supplements.
Vitamin D deficiency can cause a host of childhood illnesses, like respiratory infections, childhood wheezing and winter-related eczema.
One of the best ways to receive vitamin D is through sun exposure. It can also be obtained from foods like liver and fatty fish.
The study will be published in the November issue of Pediatrics.
